Records and how they effect the listener is often about timing. When Scott Kelly's - Spirit Bound Flesh - his first solo record was released it seemed to coincide with the way in which I was seeking out, consuming and creating music at that time. My tonal pallet was evolving. I was exploring different sounds, genres such as folk and country - I had originally shunned as a kid, and experimenting with ways of conveying power through limited - less volume orientated means. Spirit Bound Flesh spoke to all that and then some - it was a revelation, and a record I always look towards as a milestone in my personal history. Transpose that to the present - Having been asked to recreate the art was overwhelming. However it was my approach that grounded me and helped. I wanted the new art to pay homage to the original intent - while simultaneously adding to themes and subtle elements - I felt were missing. Receiving the LP in the mail completed a circle I never thought I would be apart of. Overwhelming indeed. Available from My Proud Mountain
